As November is Election Month, our theme for the month is “Civics”.
We will have two speakers: Judge Christopher Cross from the Our Courts project of the Colorado Bar Association who will speak about Colorado’s State courts system, and Jack Arrowsmith, Douglas County Clerk and Recorder, who will speak about the role of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office in our elections.
We will spend some time to hear what topics folks would like to focus on in our 2010 monthly meetings.
Thursday, Nov 19th is the last meeting for 2009. |

Come to Drinking Liberally this Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at 8PM
Where does the time go? Only 15 days until Thanksgiving, only 50 days until the end of the year, and over 2,955 days in Afghanistan. In honor of Veterans Day, remember to toast and thank our troops, here and abroad, past & present, as you lift your pint tonight.
Of course, you can make a toast again tomorrow, when we meet at Drinking Liberally Denver South Metro at 8pm (Thursday Nov. 12th). As always, we’ll be meeting at the Lansdowne Arms in Highlands Ranch. See you there and Bring A Friend!

The Progressive Book Club will be discussing "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power" by Jeff Sharlet at the November meeting.
Book: The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power Author: Jeff Sharlet ISBN: 0060560053
Described by Tattered Cover Bookstore: They insist they are just a group of friends, yet they funnel millions of dollars through tax-free corporations. They claim to disdain politics, but congressmen of both parties describe them as the most influential religious organization in Washington. They say they are not Christians, but simply believers. Behind the scenes at every National Prayer Breakfast since 1953 has been the Family, an elite network dedicated to a religion of power for the powerful. Their goal is "Jesus plus nothing." Their method is backroom diplomacy. "The Family" is the startling story of how their faith--part free-market fundamentalism, part imperial ambition--has come to be interwoven with the affairs of nations around the world.
